What to bring?

It can be risky if you don’t have the right equipment. Take the worry out of walking by reading through our checklist.

The Basics

  • Hiking Boots/Walking Shoes
  • Hiking Trousers, loose fitting
  • Waterproof Over-Trousers
  • Lightweight backpack (20L to 40L)
  • Warm hat (bring all year round)
  • Gloves (bring all year round)
  • Packed lunch and snacks
  • Hiking Socks, wool is best
  • Foldable Sitting Mat
  • Camera
  • Money (for car sharing, optional dinner afterward, etc.)

Plus the following in…

Warm weather

  • Lightweight Waterproof Coat
  • Lightweight Fleece
  • Wicking Baselayer/T-shirt, synthetics are best
  • 1.5 Litres Water (min)
  • Sun Lotion
  • Sun Glasses
  • Sun Hat/Cap

Cold weather

  • Heavier Waterproof Coat
  • Medium-weight fleece
  • Warm Baselayer Top
  • Warm Baselayer Trousers (extreme cold only)
  • Small Flask for a hot drink
  • 1 Litre Water (min)

Optional

  • Walking Poles
  • Gaiters (helps keep feet and lower legs dry in rain, snow, wet grass and bogland)
  • Neck Gaiter/Buff (helps keep neck and face warm in winter)
  • Torch/Head-Torch, in case we return in darkness/low light
